Mission Statement: ACTED’s vocation is to support vulnerable populations affected by war, natural disasters and/or economic and social crises, and to accompany them in building a better future, thus contributing to the Millennium Development Goals.

Goal: To provide vocational (VT) and skills training in order to prepare Myanmar refugees in Thailand for safe and voluntary return

Objectives:

Quality and relevance of VT courses enhanced to meet the educational needs and income opportunities of target refugee

Camp residents aged between 18 and 35 increase their vocational skill

Internship programs offer VT graduates relevant opportunities to practice skills and gain experience in a work environment

VT course curriculum standards, certification and accreditation policy among Thai and Myanmar authorities   facilitates

Social economic development needs of Thai host community living around the refugee camps improved thus compensating for some of the adverse impacts on the local physical and socio-economic infrastructure, and increasing the absorption capacities of the hosting areas.

    Activities:

    • Review relevance and quality of VT curricula and develop VT curricula based on Myanmar labor market needs 
    • Identify camp-based VT trainers and provide ToT and regular refresher courses
    • Provide 1,400 refugees with 150 hours of practical VT (10 different courses on offer)
    • Complement VT courses with 75 hours of life skills development, incl. basic English, business management, CV writing and undergoing job interviews
    • Provide at least 100 VT graduates with an internship opportunity in Myanmar  to practice skills and gain experience in their home country work environment  
    • Provide at least 210 VT graduates with an internship opportunity in/around the refugee camp
    • Facilitate communication and collaboration between Thai OVEC and Myanmar DTVE officials with regards to VT course curriculum certification and accreditation between the 2 countries through exchange visits and workshops
    • Facilitate linkages and exchanges (incl. of teachers and students) between the Nawamintrachine Mae Hong Son Industrial and Community Education College and the Government Technical High School Loikaw with the aim of developing a formal cooperation agreement.
